Climate Lefkada

Whether you are looking for an active holiday full of beautiful nature walks, want to explore the Ionian waters by boat or prefer to relax by the pool: the unique climate of Lefkas with ample sunshine and reasonable mild temperatures is always conducive to a succesful holiday! The Greek island of Lefkas is characterized by a warm Mediterranean climate that is influenced by its location at the Ionian sea, as well as by the mountainous area on mainland Greece. The summers are warm and dry. The winters, in which most rainfall occurs, are mild and wet. From March the days get longer and the temperature rises by the day. In April it can be very pleasant with a day temperature in excess of 20 degrees. From May (despite the meteorological spring), the climate is summery and you can enjoy swimming in the swimming pool and in the sea.

The best time to visit Lefkada to enjoy “sun, sea and beaches” are the months of May, June and September. In the mid-summer months of July and August temperatures are between 27 and 32 degrees C during the day and at night it does cool down to some 20 degrees C. Rarely does the temperature in these months exceed 35 degrees C, the location at the Ionian Sea provides the necessary cooling and particular in the afternoon there is usually a refreshing breeze from the sea. Rainfall is rare during the summer months.

Lefkada: a paradise for windsurfers!

If you are a surf fanatic, then it is best to visit Lefkada in the period from June to September. In the summer months the Ionian Sea is refreshed by thermal (mistral) winds. This natural phenomenon is the result of the unique formation of the mountains and provides the perfect surfing wind. In particular, the bay of Vasiliki is known for this phenomenon, in the morning the conditions are ideal for anyone who wants to learn surfing. There are no waves and the sea is fairly shallow. The perfect conditions for the untrained and novice surf athlete. But this location also offers a sufficient challenge for the experienced surfer: the wind picks up strongly in the afternoon, so that advanced surfers can enjoy themselves on the water all afternoon.

Autumn on Lefkada

In the autumn months the temperatures are a milder but the sea water is still warm.

The sky in this period is bright showing the landscape and starry heavens in its full glory. With the tourists gradually leaving, the island of Lefkas and the Lefkadians gradually turn into a relaxed wintermode.
