Holiday May – Lefkada

The holiday season in Lefkada starts gradually in the month of April, with the Greek Easter celebration. The month of May, during spring, is an ideal  time to visit Greece. In spring, nature in Greece is overwhelmingly beautiful with blooming flowers, green trees and fragrant herbs. The weather is very pleasant with temperatures normally around 25 degrees. The spring break in April/ May is an ideal opportunity to visit Greece and Lefkada with children, especially as temperatures are nice and modest.

The Lefkadian have resumed life after their winterhibernation and are full of energy to surprise the visitors. The flights from Europe to Aktion Preveza (PVK) also start early May. We recommend booking these flights as early as possible because prices of flights tend to rise as the departure date approaches.

The swimming water (in the swimming pool as in the sea) is still cold, but once you get through it is nice. The evenings are still cold but in our house you can enjoy the underfloor heating, hot air heating or very romantic lighting the wood stove.

Due to the lower temperature of the sea water, the atmosphere is still very clear, the views of the sea, the mainland of Greece and the islands of Meganisi, Arkoudi, Atoko, Ithaka and Kefalonia are breathtaking. When you lay down in the evening on a lounge bed to watch the starry sky, you will be amazed by the amount of stars that you can see here.

The month of May is also an ideal time to explore the island or the surrounding area, there is little traffic and you can enjoy nature and quietly visit the popular tourist attractions. This period is also suitable for the sporty holiday maker with activities such as sailing, surfing, mountain biking, hiking etc.

We take you on a tour through the south of Lefkada in the month of May.

From Sivota you drive up, direction provincial road and head towards Vasiliki. The first exit leads to Evgiros, a small village with the idyllic mini beach of Afteli at the very end, after a hill ride. The cafe at the beach is occasionally open. The next place on this provincial road is Marondochori, just after the village of Marandochori there is a turn to Amouso beach, a beautiful bay with a tavern, a nice beach and beautiful view.

The next bay to visit is Vasiliki where a new marina has recently been built. Vasiliki has a small shopping street and a pleasant boulevard with cafes and taverns right at the sea. At the end of the boulevard you can also drive on to the mini island of Agiofilli, a beach that until recently was only accessible by boat. You can also take a bus boat from Vasiliki to the Agiofili cliff beach. The month of May is perfect for this type of trips, with some luck you migt be one a few visitors  on this beautiful beach.

At the end of the boulevard of Vasiliki is the departure point of the ferry to the island of Kefalonia. It is certainly worthwhile to visit the town of Fiscardo and the Assos peninsula on Kefalonia. The village of Assos is one of the most beautiful villages on this island, it is built as an amphitheater on a peninsula. South of Assos lies Myrtos, one of the most famous beaches in Greece, also called the paradise of Kefalonia. It is a beautiful white sand-pebble beach with a deep blue sea at the foot of a green steep slope. The trip to Kefalonia will take you a whole day, you have to return by the ferry from Fiscardo to Vasiliki at around 6 p.m.

From Vasiliki you can visit the west side of the island via Pondi and Agios Petros. At Pondi you can see in the afternnon the wind surfers crossing the bay with enormous speed.Along the the west coast you will find the most beautiful panoramas and beaches of Greece. You should definitely visit Porto Katsiki beach in the south. After Agios Petros drive about 10 minutes until a turn to the left and then back to the south for another 15 minutes. In the month of May this is easily accessible and you get the feeling that this beach and the beautiful nature are only there for yourself. When you continue the westcoast to the north you pass Athína and Egremni beach, definetely worth visiting if you still have time.
