Greece in October
The month of October is a wonderful month to spend your holiday in Greece. The weather is still warm in October (warmer than in May), but also the sea water is still nice and warm. The temperatures often rise above 25 degrees during the day. The month of October is also ideal for excursions because the tourist places are no longer busy.
Take the time for one of the Lefkada tours as described in the months of May, July and September. The ferry boats still sail to Meganisi and Kefalonia. If you stay longer in Lefkada, we can also recommend one of the two-day excursions to one of the most beautiful and impressive cultural-historical places in Greece.
Holiday Lefkada
A two day trip we recommend is visiting the Oracle of Delphi. This place of interest is located a little further away. At the foot of Mount Parnassos in Central Greece lies the archaeological site of Delphi (Delfi). The landscape is beautiful and against the slope of the 2500 meter high Parnassós mountain are temples, theaters and treasure houses. A mysterious environment and ideal for the Apollo oracle that is also called the oracle of Delphi. For a long time in history, the oracle of Delphi determined the destiny of the Greek world. The priestess of the oracle, Pythia, sat there on a stool above a cleft of a rock from which toxic fumes rose. It made her high and emitted incoherent sounds that only the priests could translate. It is today one of the most important cultural attractions of Greece and it is also world famous. There is also a museum that shows much of the interesting Greek life of 3000 years ago.

We can also recommend visiting the monasteries of Meteora. The monasteries of Meteora are one of the most important sights of Greece. Mysterious and impressive are the conically shaped rocks that protrude high above the valley. On top are the six monasteries, whose history dates back to the 11th century.
The Meteora has a total of six “floating” monasteries: Great Meteor, Varlaam, Agia Nikolaou Anapafsas, Megalo Meteora (Metamorfosis), Roussanou, Agia Triada (Holy Trinity) and Agia Stefanou. The Greek word meteorizomai means to float in the air and certainly in the winter time, if the monasteries are sometimes covered in a foggy blanket, the meaning of this becomes clear. The Meteora monasteries can also be seen in the James Bond movie “For your Eyes only”. Meteora is located 230 kilometers east of the city of Thessaloniki and 100 kilometers west of the city of Ioannina and can be visited all year round.
In order to allow sufficient time for a visit to these monasteries and museums, we recommend that you book an overnight stay. Also inform you in advance on which days the monasteries are open for visitors.
