Greece in September

The month of September is a wonderful month to travel to Greece. The weather is still summery and the seawater is nice and warm. The temperatures often rise above 27 degrees during the day. The month of September is also very suitable for tours, excursions and water sports as the island is no longer crowded and temperatures are mild.

Every year in the 3rd week of September there is a  sailing regatta in front of our house Villa Lefkas, a speed competition of sailboats of various sizes that sail from Sivota around Arkoudi isand and then back to Sivota. From the terrace at our house you are sitting on the grandstand as it were to let the spectacle pass you by. The evening before the regatta and the evening of the award ceremony, it is a pleasant bustle in the marina with lots of music, drinks and fun stories.

About Lefkada

The capital Lefkada is the administrative, economic and cultural center of the region. A walk through the shopping street and cafes is a real pleasure, also walk through the small streets in the center with the colorful houses. The city is surrounded by the sea channel that separates the island from the mainland and the lagoon in which the multicolored houses are reflected. There are many terraces and eateries along the sea channel, along the lagoon or at the new marina. The city has many cultural and archaeological sights. On the west side of the lagoon is a beautiful Agios Ioannis beach with 4 old windmills and the Milos beach resort where the experienced kite surfers can enjoy themselves.

Lefkada in the month September

September is a nice month to better explore the island. We now take you on a tour of Lefkada from the city of Lefkada via the west and then through the mountains to the tourist town of Nidry.

From Lefkada you drive via a beautiful hilly forest route to Katisma beach, a long stretched sandy beach with nice beach clubs. Continue your way and the next village is Agios Nikitas, park the car and continue by foot. The road through this picturesque village leads to the sea with left and right all kinds of colorful houses with colorful vegetation. On the left around the corner is the beautiful Milos beach, where you can go to by foot or by bus.

Continue towards Kalamitsi and at the fork you can go to the mountain village of Exhantia where the parasailing club Rachi has its home. From the tilted terrace you can see pilots to take of with their parasail, en route for a gliding descent to the beautiful beach of Katishma.

Continue the road through the mountains towards the well-known traditional mountain village of Karia. It is surrounded by green mountains and in the center of the village there is a large cozy square with terraces. Karia is best known for the traditional "Karsaniko" embroidery that is made and sold here. This embroidery is unique in Greece, it requires a special technique and is made entirely by hand.

Follow the route from Karia to the villages of Eglouvi and Vafkeri and from there towards Nidry. The road descends towards Nidry and you have a beautiful view over Nidry, the numerous islands that lie off the coast of Nidry such as Madouri, Skorpios, Meganisi and the mountains on the mainland of Greece.
